Powder Coating Inspection
Powder Booths and Containment
A powder coating booth controls a hazardous and combustible powder, so COSHH requires it to be thoroughly examined and tested.
Working to BOHS P601, we look at the containment airflow at the booth opening, the cartridge filters and the powder recovery system, and report on whether the booth is keeping powder where it should be. It is treated differently to a wet-paint booth for good reason.

What's included
What's covered in powder coating LEV testing
Containment Airflow
We measure the containment airflow at the booth opening, the figure that decides whether powder stays inside. Powder escaping the booth opening is the defect we flag hardest.
Cartridge Filters
We check the cartridge filter condition and cleaning. Loaded cartridge filters reducing containment airflow are the most common finding on a powder booth.
Powder Recovery
We assess the powder recovery and reclaim system, which behaves nothing like a wet-paint booth. A recovery or reclaim system underperforming is something we regularly report.
Fan, Structure and Seals
We check the fan performance and static pressures, and the booth structure and seals. Worn seals around the booth are a recurring issue.
Discharge and Benchmark
We check the discharge and any recirculation, then measure performance against the booth benchmark, accounting for combustible powder throughout.
How it works
Your powder coating booth LEV test, start to finish
Every scheme your equipment is required to meet under UK regulation carried out by accredited engineers and backed by compliant reports.
1
Book
Send the booth details and your site, and we confirm a date and a fixed price, usually same day.
2
On-site examination
A P601 examiner attends and tests containment and recovery under working conditions.
3
Compliant report
Your LEV report arrives within three days, with containment readings and defects spelled out.
4
Reminders
We keep your next test date and prompt you before the booth falls due.
OUR STANDARDS
Containment first, every test
We take our responsibilities seriously, upholding the highest standards of professionalism, quality and safety across every aspect of our operations.
Quality Assurance
Containment measured by P601-qualified examiners who understand how a powder booth differs from wet paint.
Responsibility
A rigorous test that confirms powder stays contained and keeps you compliant with COSHH.
Care
We care about exposure and the combustible-powder risk alike, and our reports tell you exactly where you stand.

FAQ
Powder Coating Inspection: Common Queries
What does the LEV report include?
A diagram of the system, the airflow and capture measurements taken at each point, a comparison against how it should perform, and a clear statement of whether it is controlling exposure, along with any defects and what to do about them.
How often should a powder coating booth be tested?
COSHH requires a thorough examination and test at least every 14 months, and most operators test annually. A fresh test is also needed after cartridge changes, modifications or anything that could affect containment.
Is a powder booth treated differently to a paint booth?
Yes. A powder booth has a recovery system and combustible powder to account for, so we focus on containment airflow, the cartridges and the reclaim system rather than wet-paint filters and solvent vapour.
Do you carry out LEV testing on site?
Yes. Our examiners come to your premises across Berkshire and the surrounding counties and test the system in place, under normal working conditions, with reports issued promptly.
Do I legally need an LEV test?
If you rely on an LEV system to control exposure to a hazardous substance, the law requires it to be thoroughly examined and tested, and failing to do so is a criminal offence. A competent person's report, kept on record, is how you show you are compliant.
