Spray Booth Testing
Spray Booths and LEV
Spray booths control solvent vapour and paint mist, both hazardous under COSHH, so the booth has to be thoroughly examined and tested.
Working to BOHS P601, we measure the airflow and capture across the booth, check the intake and extract filters and the balance, and report on whether control is being maintained. Loaded filters are the usual culprit when a booth drifts out of spec.

What's included
What's covered in spray booth LEV testing
Airflow and Face Velocity
We measure airflow and face velocity across the booth opening or down-draught, the figure that tells you whether overspray and vapour are being carried away. Low face velocity at the opening is a common finding.
Filters
We check the intake and extract filter condition. Loaded intake or extract filters choking the airflow are the usual reason a booth drifts out of spec, often long before anyone notices.
Balance and Pressure
We check the booth balance and pressure. A booth running out of balance, or filter bypass letting overspray through, are defects we regularly pick up.
Fan and Interlocks
We assess the fan performance and static pressures and the spray-to-airflow interlock where fitted. Interlocks faulty or overridden are flagged at once.
Discharge and Benchmark
We check the lighting and the booth's visible condition and the discharge to atmosphere, then measure performance against the booth benchmark.
How it works
Your spray booth LEV test, start to finish
Every scheme your equipment is required to meet under UK regulation carried out by accredited engineers and backed by compliant reports.
1
Book
Give us the booth and your location, and we confirm a date and a firm quote, often same day.
2
On-site examination
A P601 examiner attends and tests the booth's airflow and capture under working conditions.
3
Compliant report
A clear LEV report reaches you within three days, with airflow readings and any defects.
4
Reminders
We track when the next test is due and let you know ahead of time.
OUR STANDARDS
Airflow tested where it counts
We take our responsibilities seriously, upholding the highest standards of professionalism, quality and safety across every aspect of our operations.
Quality Assurance
Reliable airflow and capture readings from P601-qualified examiners who keep pace with LEV best practice.
Responsibility
A disciplined test that confirms control is being maintained and keeps you compliant with COSHH.
Care
We care about the sprayer's exposure, and our reports set out clearly whether the booth is doing its job.

FAQ
Questions About Spray Booth Testing
Do you test the booth's filters and airflow?
Yes. Loaded intake or extract filters are the most common reason a booth drifts out of spec, so filter condition and the resulting airflow and capture are central to the test.
How often should a spray booth be tested?
No more than 14 months between COSHH thorough examinations and tests, with annual testing the common choice to stay inside the limit. A test is also due after filter changes, modifications or anything affecting airflow.
Do I legally need an LEV test?
If you rely on an LEV system to control exposure to a hazardous substance, the law requires it to be thoroughly examined and tested, and failing to do so is a criminal offence. A competent person's report, kept on record, is how you show you are compliant.
What does the LEV report include?
A diagram of the system, the airflow and capture measurements taken at each point, a comparison against how it should perform, and a clear statement of whether it is controlling exposure, along with any defects and what to do about them.
Do you carry out LEV testing on site?
Yes. Our examiners come to your premises across Berkshire and the surrounding counties and test the system in place, under normal working conditions, with reports issued promptly.
