Air Compressor Inspection
Compressor Systems Under PSSR
A compressor system stores energy as compressed air, which brings it under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000. To a Written Scheme of Examination we inspect the pressure side - the relief valve, gauge, pipework and condensate handling - and confirm it is safe to run.
The compressor feeds an air receiver, and on a screw machine an air oil receiver, both of which we examine as part of the system.

What's included
What's covered in an air compressor examination
Relief Valve and Cut-Out
We test the relief valve and the high-pressure cut-out that protect the system. A relief valve that does not lift at its set pressure, and a faulty high-pressure cut-out, are the faults that matter most.
Pressure Gauge
We confirm the pressure gauge reads accurately, because every other judgement about the system depends on it.
Pipework and Connections
We check the after-cooler, separator and receiver connections, and the pipework, hoses and fittings for leaks and condition. Corroded or leaking pipework is a common finding.
Drains and Condensate
We check the drains and condensate handling. A waterlogged receiver from a failed drain quietly corrodes the system and is something we regularly report.
Condition and Scheme
We check the mountings, guards and general condition, and confirm the documentation against the Written Scheme of Examination. A missing or out-of-date scheme is itself a compliance failure.
How it works
Your air compressor's PSSR examination, start to finish
Every scheme your equipment is required to meet under UK regulation carried out by accredited engineers and backed by compliant reports.
1
Book
Send us the system details and your site, and we confirm a date and a fixed price, usually same day.
2
On-site examination
A competent examiner attends and examines the pressure side to your Written Scheme of Examination.
3
Compliant report
Within three days you get your examination report, every defect and timescale listed.
4
Reminders
We hold the scheme's due date and prompt you before the system needs examining again.
OUR STANDARDS
PSSR examinations where the pressure side comes first
We take our responsibilities seriously, upholding the highest standards of professionalism, quality and safety across every aspect of our operations.
Quality Assurance
The pressure side examined by competent examiners who know exactly which parts PSSR cares about.
Responsibility
A thorough examination to your Written Scheme that keeps your compressed air system compliant with PSSR 2000.
Care
Stored energy fails fast and hard, so we treat the pressure side of your compressor with the seriousness it deserves.

FAQ
Air Compressor Inspection: Common Questions
Do I legally need a PSSR examination?
If you operate a pressure system that stores energy - compressed air, steam or refrigeration - PSSR 2000 makes it your duty to have a Written Scheme of Examination and to examine the system to it. Running without one is a criminal offence, and a competent person's report is your evidence of compliance.
Is a compressor covered by PSSR or PUWER?
Both, in effect. The machinery sits under PUWER, while the pressure side - the receiver, separator, relief valve and gauge - falls under PSSR and needs examining to a Written Scheme of Examination.
How often does an air compressor need examining?
There is no fixed PSSR interval. The frequency comes from your Written Scheme of Examination, set by a competent person for the system, and for compressor systems that typically falls in the 12 to 48 month range depending on duty and condition.
What is a Written Scheme of Examination?
It is the document, drawn up by a competent person, that sets out which parts of your pressure system must be examined, how, and how often. PSSR requires one before the system is used. We can write the scheme for you and then carry out the examinations to it.
Do you carry out PSSR examinations on site?
Yes. Our examiners come to your premises across Berkshire and the surrounding counties, examine the system in place, and issue the report promptly.
