Pressure Gauge Inspection

Why Pressure Gauges Are Examined

A pressure gauge is how everyone, and every safety device, knows what the system is doing, so PSSR treats it as part of the pressure system to be examined under the Written Scheme of Examination. We confirm it reads true across its range and suits the system's pressure.

It usually sits on an air receiver, which we examine alongside it.

What's included

What's covered in a pressure gauge examination

Accuracy

We check accuracy against a reference across the gauge's range, not just at one point. A gauge reading inaccurately or stuck is the fault that hides a dangerous system in plain sight.

Suitable Range

We confirm the range suits the system's operating pressure. A range unsuited to the system pressure makes the reading hard to judge and is something we flag.

Face and Pointer

We examine the dial, glass and pointer condition. A cracked glass or an obscured face stops the operator reading it properly.

Connection and Isolation

We check the connection and isolation. A faulty or leaking connection is a common finding.

Marking and Scheme

We confirm the maximum-pressure or red-line marking is present, and that the gauge reflects the Written Scheme of Examination. A missing maximum-pressure marking is a defect we report.

How it works

Your pressure gauge's PSSR examination, start to finish

Every scheme your equipment is required to meet under UK regulation carried out by accredited engineers and backed by compliant reports.

1

Book

Give us the system and your location, and we confirm a date and a firm quote, often same day.

2

On-site examination

A competent examiner attends and confirms the gauge reads true against a reference, on site.

3

Compliant report

A clear examination report reaches you within three days, with the accuracy check and any defects.

4

Reminders

We track when the next examination is due under your scheme and let you know ahead of time.

OUR STANDARDS

Readings you can actually trust

We take our responsibilities seriously, upholding the highest standards of professionalism, quality and safety across every aspect of our operations.

Quality Assurance

Accuracy confirmed against a reference by competent examiners, across the gauge's range.

Responsibility

An examination to your Written Scheme that keeps the whole pressure system compliant with PSSR 2000.

Care

Every safety judgement rests on the gauge, so we confirm it reads true rather than assume it does.

FAQ

Questions About Pressure Gauge Inspection

Is a pressure gauge really worth examining?

Yes. It is how the operator and the safety devices judge the system's pressure, so a gauge reading wrongly can mask a dangerous condition. We confirm its accuracy against a reference across the range.

How often should a pressure gauge be checked?

At the interval in your Written Scheme of Examination. Gauges are usually examined and their accuracy confirmed alongside the rest of the system, on the schedule the competent person has set rather than a fixed national figure.

Do I legally need a PSSR examination?

If you operate a pressure system that stores energy - compressed air, steam or refrigeration - PSSR 2000 makes it your duty to have a Written Scheme of Examination and to examine the system to it. Running without one is a criminal offence, and a competent person's report is your evidence of compliance.

What is a Written Scheme of Examination?

It is the document, drawn up by a competent person, that sets out which parts of your pressure system must be examined, how, and how often. PSSR requires one before the system is used. We can write the scheme for you and then carry out the examinations to it.

Do you carry out PSSR examinations on site?

Yes. Our examiners come to your premises across Berkshire and the surrounding counties, examine the system in place, and issue the report promptly.
