Fall Protection Equipment Inspection
Personal Fall Protection Under WAHR
Personal fall protection is the system that catches or restrains someone working at height - harnesses, lanyards and energy absorbers, fall arresters, connectors and anchor devices. Because a failure is fatal, the accepted standard is a detailed inspection by a competent person at least every 6 months, on top of pre-use checks.
Our examiners inspect the whole system on site and report on what is safe and what must be withdrawn.

What's included
What's covered in a fall protection equipment inspection
Harnesses
We check the harnesses across the system - webbing, stitching, D-rings and buckles. Cut or frayed webbing is the most common reason an item is withdrawn.
Lanyards and Absorbers
We inspect the lanyards and energy absorbers, the webbing or rope and the deployment indicators. Deployed energy absorbers or shock packs mean the item has done its job and must be replaced.
Fall Arresters and Connectors
We test the fall arresters and inertia reels for locking action, and check the lifeline, casing, connectors and karabiners. A fall arrester that does not lock, or worn connector gates, are serious findings.
Anchors and Compatibility
We check the anchor devices and how the system fits together. Components mixed from incompatible systems break the chain, so we flag them.
Labels and History
We confirm labels, ID and in-date status across every item, and check general condition and contamination. A missing ID label leaves the history unknown, so the item cannot be trusted.

FAQ
Questions About Fall Protection Equipment Inspection
What happens if equipment fails the inspection?
It is taken out of service and your report sets out why. With fall-arrest PPE in particular, anything failed is quarantined and replaced rather than repaired, because there is no second chance with it.
How often should fall protection equipment be inspected?
Fall-arrest PPE should have a detailed inspection by a competent person at least every 6 months, and every 3 months where use is heavy or conditions are harsh, alongside a pre-use check before each wear. Manufacturer instructions and your risk assessment set the rest.
What counts as fall protection equipment?
Personal fall protection covers harnesses, lanyards and energy absorbers, fall arresters and inertia reels, connectors and anchor devices - the whole system that catches or restrains someone working at height. We inspect the lot.
Do you carry out inspections on site?
Yes. Our examiners come to your premises across Berkshire and the surrounding counties, inspect the equipment in place, and issue the records promptly.
Do I legally need a work-at-height inspection?
If you provide equipment for working at height, the Work at Height Regulations 2005 make it your duty to have it inspected. Regulation 12 requires inspection at suitable intervals where it could deteriorate, on top of the user's pre-use checks, and a competent person's record is your evidence of compliance.
